General information on locking systems
Planning locking systems
Depending on the complexity and requirements of the locking system being planned, a number of different technologies might come into application. For more information, read the "Concept or Planning" section.
Service life of locking systems
Even though Kaba locking systems meet the highest quality standards, both locking cylinders and keys will display signs of use over time. Details on the service life of locking systems.
Maintaining locking systems
Depending on the situation, locking system cylinders are always subjected to certain levels of dirt and require maintenance to achieve the longest possible service life. Details on maintaining locking systems.
Protecting locking systems
To maintain the protection of your Kaba locking system, Kaba has defined security rules that govern the handling of found keys, ordering replacement keys, and similar matters. These rules ensure that information does not fall into the wrong hands and that keys cannot be ordered by unauthorised persons.
Ordering replacement keys
For registered locking systems (Kaba 20, Kaba gemini S, Kaba star, Kaba elostar, Kaba elolegic), orders can be placed by specialist partners only when the order has been authorised by security information of the system owner (signature for older locking systems, security code for newer systems).
Information about found keys
For security reasons, information about the ownership of found keys is not publicised (except to official authorities such as the police, etc.). Found keys can be sent to the following address. Registered found keys are then immediately returned to their owner.

Tip on sending found keys
When sending a key you have found, affix the key to a piece of cardboard and insert the cardboard into an envelope. Loose keys often fall out of envelopes that are accidentally ripped open.
Changes of ownership
When the ownership of a locking system changes — due, for example, to a transfer or real property — the ownerships rights must be passed to the new owner. This is the only way to ensure that the new owner has complete control over the system and that others, such as employees of the previous owner, do not retain authorisation. Procedure: Request the security card and associated specifications (e.g. security settings) from the previous owner, or for older locking systems, request a signed letter confirming the change of ownership.
Change the data and possibly also the security settings on the Internet (Kaba home page - Key Registration). If you do not have Internet access, you can also have the modifications made through your specialist partner.
