Checklist for evaluating locking systems

  • What were your experiences with existing suppliers and manufacturers?
    Delivery dates, delivery reliability, locking system documentation, no delivery errors.
  • If all of these areas were good, are there other reasons to change?
    New systems, new technologies, new combinations?
  • Should the new system allow anybody to obtain keys, or keys to be obtained only from a certain person and only with their signature?
    Unprotected or registered system?
  • What size will the final locking system be?
    Are only today's requirements to be taken into consideration, or will there be further buildings to integrate in the future?
  • What level of security does the manufacturer guarantee?
    At least ten active pin pairs per cylinder side?
    Is each locking combination so different that at least one tumbler definitely locks independently of springs?
    Drilling diagrams for better security at entrance doors?
  • What combination and upgrade potential does the system offer?
    Can the key be used for other applications?
    Can the mechanical locking cylinders be upgraded if required for better flexibility or to eliminate lost keys by implementing electronic cylinders?
    Can the system be upgraded to handle time management/access control?
  • Are supporting information and aids available for planning and management of the system?
    Is software available with which to plan large locking systems?
    Management programs?
    Is it possible to receive the locking system plan on electronic media?
  • What additional potential solutions need to be discussed?
    Special lock types, e.g. panic locks for emergency exits?
    Safety fittings?
    Automatic doors?
    Door securing devices or special door constructions?
